Generally photoluminescent tape is used for two main duties, way finding (Low Location Lighting) and area identification. Area identification can assist crew and passengers locate emergency equipment in the event of a 'black out'.
All spaces can be a confusing area, even to crew familiar with their surroundings, when all light is lost. Identifying telephones, fire fighting equipment, low deck beams and protruding pipes, valves, hand rails, trip hazards etc. can save valuable time and possibly lives in the event of an emergency. Where used as part of a LLL system installers must ensure adequate light is available to activate the photoluminescent material to attain the required performance.
